by Geoffrey Seiler, editor BullMarket.comTeva Pharmaceutical Industries ( TEVA) -- which is on our recommended buy list -- has been so beaten up and expectations have come down so much, that the considerably weaker-than-expected guidance didn't hurt the stock.
The generic and branded drug company expects to generate $19.5-$20.5 billion in revenue for 2013 with about $10.0-$10.6 billion of that coming from the U.S. Its leading multiple sclerosis (MS) drug Copaxone is forecast to contribute $3.7-$3.9 billion in sales. Teva guided for adjusted EPS of $4.85-$5.15. It is also looking for operating cash flow of $4.5-$4.8 billion and free cash flow of $2.5-$2.8 billion.Analysts were looking for EPS of $5.65 on revenue of $20.82 billion. The company also announced a restructuring program that is expected to save $1.5-$2.0 billion in costs over the next five years. However, the benefits likely won't start to really kick in until 2014. Even with the reduced forecast, Teva is still cheap, trading at 8x the $5.00 midpoint of its 2013 EPS forecast. Meanwhile, the company has meaningfully lowered the bar to a level that now looks much easier to jump over, and the cost savings program should provide a nice tailwind and significantly boost the bottom line in a few years. That looks like it could be just the right elixir Teva needs to rebound in 2013. We continue to rate the stock a "Buy." by Jack Bowers, editor Fidelity Monitor & Insight
If you’ve been worried that the bond market might take a big hit, you can relax. Indeed, while bond funds may lag stock funds over the next 5-10 years, they still have a decent shot at keeping up with inflation, and they remain an excellent way to cut risk in a blended portfolio.
