"Medivation continues to make good clinical trial progress with its Dimebon drug for Alzheimer’s Disease. "The firm received some mainstream media attention at the recent International Conference on Alzheimer’s Disease (ICAD) in Vienna. Reuters, Forbesand Bloomberg all reported that Dimebon is changing the way scientists think about Alzheimer’s. "Data showed that in mice and cell cultures, Dimebon increased the presence of amyloid plaque – a protein that signals Alzheimer’s. Scientists aren’t sure whether the amyloid is a cause or symptom of Alzheimer’s, but they believe there is an important relationship between amyloid and the disease. "Sam E. Gandy, a professor at Mt. Sinai Medical Center, who led the amyloid Dimebon study, said the data presented so far is 'the best thing anyone’s ever seen in Alzheimer’s.” "Not only could Dimebon be a successful drug, it could also create a better understanding of Alzheimer’s and speed development of other drugs or preventative measures. "And make no mistake… if Dimebon is proven safe and effective in Phase III trials, it will be one of the most important medical breakthroughs in recent memory – and would send Medivation’s shares soaring." |
